A budget app made to work in Canada, after Mint

Since Mint shut down, Canadians have been handed a shortlist of US-first apps with shaky Canadian bank coverage. Cash Compass takes the other route — no bank connection at all, CAD from the start.

Apple-native · No bank logins · iCloud sync

Why this fits

Why Canadian budgeters pick Cash Compass

1

The post-Mint gap in Canada

Mint's closure hit Canada hard because it was one of the few free trackers that handled Canadian institutions. Most replacements are worse north of the border: Copilot Money and Rocket Money are US-only, and Monarch's strength is US brokerage and bank coverage. Canadians repeatedly report smaller credit unions and regional banks failing to link or silently dropping. Cash Compass has nothing to drop — the record is the one you make.

2

CAD, and bilingual if you need it

Set the currency to CAD and every total, chart and export uses Canadian dollars. Cash Compass is also translated into French among its 33 languages, so a household in Québec can run the app in French while the numbers stay in CAD. Interface language and currency are independent settings, which matters in a bilingual country.

3

Good for Interac-and-cash reality

A lot of Canadian day-to-day money moves by Interac e-Transfer, split bills and cash for the things that never hit a statement cleanly. Those are precisely the transactions bank feeds mislabel or miss. Capturing them at the moment of spending — by voice or a quick tap — produces a more honest month than waiting for a feed to guess what "POS PURCHASE" meant.

How it works

Three taps from blank screen to budget

  1. 1. Capture

Voice, photo of a receipt, or 3-tap manual entry — every method takes under 5 seconds.

  2. 2. Categorize

Cash Compass picks the category automatically. Override once and it learns your pattern.

  3. 3. Review

Weekly chart shows where money went. Adjust caps before the month is over, not after.

FAQ

Common questions

Is this a good Mint replacement for Canada?

It is if you're willing to log spending yourself. Cash Compass covers the tracking, categorising and charting Mint did, in CAD, without bank connections. It does not auto-import transactions, so if automatic sync is non-negotiable this isn't the right pick — but automatic sync is also what most Canadian users found unreliable.

Does it support Canadian dollars?

Yes — choose CAD at setup or change it later in Settings. Charts, totals and CSV exports all follow it. Cash Compass reads every ISO currency, so snowbirds tracking USD spending part of the year can switch without losing their history.

Does it connect to Canadian banks or credit unions?

No, and that's deliberate. There's no aggregator in the middle, so a small credit union works exactly as well as a big five bank. You enter spending by voice, receipt photo or manual entry, and nothing needs reauthorising.

Is it available in French?

Yes. French is one of 33 translated languages, and the interface language is set independently of your currency, so you can run the app in French with CAD amounts.
